The Mastbruch is not only surrounded by greenery, but also in the middle of the nature reserve of the same name. The kingfisher, buzzard and water bat, for example, are protected here.

That's why it's important to stay on the paths, don't feed the animals and don't leave any garbage lying around.

Incidentally, the Mastbruch was only created in the 1940s as a result of subsidence.

And why is it called that? The residents of Schloss Westhusen used to fatten their pigs in the fattening pond. Up to 100 domestic pigs used to forage here.
