Unlike Bodelschwingh Castle, which is still inhabited by descendants of its builders, Westhusen Castle has a very varied history. Built in the 14th century, it has been rebuilt many times according to the wishes of its respective owners. Destruction during the Great Dortmund Feud and the Thirty Years' War did the rest. Today, however, it is very pretty to look at.

When Conrad von Sydow, the last owner of the castle, moved to Pomerania, he sold the castle to Gelsenkirchener Bergwerks-AG in 1912. This company also used the Rahm Forest as a pheasant farm, i.e. for hunting.

After housing a facility for people with disabilities on the grounds for a while, Schloss Westhusen is now an Alloheim retirement home and very idyllic.

Every August, however, the castle grounds are a hive of activity when the Dortmund Classic Days take place and you can admire classic cars.

If you prefer a romantic setting, you can also get married in the castle's wedding room. This is possible every day except Sundays.
